Cimarron Federal Release Paths

Cimarron Correctional Facility at 3200 S. Kings Highway in Cushing is operated by CoreCivic. CoreCivic reports that its U.S. Marshals Service agreement began September 15, 2020 through an intergovernmental arrangement with the City of Cushing. The contract covers a 1,692-bed facility. ICE also lists Cimarron in its detention-facility directory under the Dallas Field Office. Those current roles control the search route.

The building's former use as an Oklahoma state prison causes a serious search trap. A person held there years ago under ODOC belongs in state records. A person detained there under the current mission requires federal court, USMS, BOP, or ICE sources. Do not start with OK Offender merely because an old search result calls Cimarron a state prison. Establish the detention authority from the case, booking document, immigration paperwork, or facility confirmation.

Confirm a Cimarron Release

The right sequence depends on whether the person is a federal pretrial detainee, a sentenced federal prisoner, or an immigration detainee. A USMS-held person can move among contract facilities without appearing in BOP. After federal sentence and commitment, BOP becomes the main public locator. ICE uses an A-number or biographical search. A no-result in one system does not resolve the others.

1. Identify the controlling agency from court papers, facility information, an A-number, or a federal register number.
2. For a pretrial or unsentenced federal case, read the federal court docket and contact the responsible USMS district. USMS has no general historic-release locator.
3. For a sentenced person committed to BOP, search the BOP Inmate Locator by register number or verified name details.
4. For immigration custody, search the ICE Online Detainee Locator by exact A-number and country of birth, or by exact biographical details.
5. Compare the reported event with the court order or responsible agency record. A transfer is not community release.

BOP can show a release date and “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” context. That wording means only that BOP no longer holds the person. Federal supervised release, state custody, immigration detention, or another justice-system status may remain. ICE no-match is also inconclusive because exclusions and update delays exist.

Note: Record the exact federal status label because “not in BOP custody” does not prove release from USMS or ICE.

Cimarron Release Contacts

Use the operator for present facility information, but direct legal release questions to the authority that controls the case. CoreCivic can confirm its current contact and facility policies. It should not be asked to interpret a federal judge's order or decide whether an ICE case has ended. USMS, BOP, ICE, and the federal court hold different parts of the record.

For release documents, describe the record sought and cite the identifier. A federal criminal case order belongs with the federal court. A BOP release or sentence record belongs with BOP. ICE detention or release documentation follows ICE procedures. USMS limits public access to prisoner histories, photographs, and arrival or departure times, so do not promise those items.

Cimarron Release Systems Compared

Federal custody is not one database. USMS manages federal prisoners from arrest through acquittal or commitment and uses many contract sites. BOP generally takes over after sentence and commitment. ICE detention is a civil immigration process with a separate identifier and locator. Cimarron can serve more than one federal path, so the facility name alone does not show the case type. For a local booking that may precede the federal move, begin with the Payne County release-record route.

A federal docket can explain detention authority and a release order, yet it does not always show the precise time a person walked out or boarded a transport. The facility and agency movement record supply that operational fact. Resolve conflicts by asking which agency had custody at each timestamp.

Cimarron ICE Release Search

ICE's locator accepts an exact nine-digit A-number with country of birth or an exact first and last name with country of birth and optional birth date. Add leading zeros to a shorter A-number. The locator does not search children under 18. Safety exclusions and upload delays can also prevent a public match, so no-result is not proof of release.

The directory capture supports the ICE branch, while the detainee locator is used for a specific person and the information line handles unresolved matches.

An immigration exit can mean release under ICE authority, transfer, or removal. The public locator does not provide a complete historic movement file. When the precise outcome matters, use the A-number, note the last known facility, and request the relevant ICE record through the proper federal process.

Cimarron Release Mission Changed

Cimarron's mission changed in 2020 after its state-contract operation was idled. That is the facility-history angle that most affects Payne County release searches. Old ODOC references may still rank well in search results, but they cannot override current operator and ICE listings. Search by the custody date and authority, not just the building name.

The current operator agreement and ICE directory identify the present federal branches. Those sources should be checked again when the custody event is new because contract roles and agency listings can change.

Stillwater Release Shift

Payne County also experienced a separate municipal change when Stillwater closed its jail and shifted detention services to Payne County on July 1, 2026. That change does not alter Cimarron’s federal role. It reinforces a broader point: facility use can change while names persist online. A dated official notice is stronger than an undated directory or an old article.

Stillwater Municipal Court still handles city-ordinance matters even though the detention site moved. The change affects the first custody record, not the court that holds the municipal case.

Cimarron Historical Release Records

A historic ODOC match can still be valid for a person who was housed at Cimarron during the former state mission. In that case, note the custody date and use ODOC for the state record. For present detention, require a current federal or immigration source. This date-based split preserves the older record without letting it misdirect a current release check.

Facility leadership can also change. CoreCivic identified Chris Gantt as warden as of May 2026, but the operator page should be checked before relying on a named official. The stable contact is the facility and controlling agency, not a person's title.

Cimarron Release Detainers

A detainer is a request from another authority to hold a person or provide notice before release. It can cause one custody case to close while another begins. At Cimarron, that may involve a move between USMS and ICE authority, a BOP designation after sentence, transport to another contract facility, or a court-authorized release subject to another hold.

Ask for the departure record by agency and date. A facility movement log, federal docket entry, BOP designation, or ICE custody result can supply the next link. The lack of a public USMS history makes this sequence more important for pretrial cases. When personal movement detail is withheld for safety or privacy, request the releasable status, controlling agency, and legal authority instead of guessing the destination.

Follow the custody chain in both directions. Read the sending agency's departure term and the receiving agency's admission or locator status. A “release” alert from one source should not be translated into “home” unless the second source and governing order support community release. This same distinction applies when someone disappears from the Payne County roster and later appears at Cimarron.
